Hats Off to Julien d'ys

Hi!  It's Fashion's Night Out 2011 today.

I know it has been a while since I last posted, but I promise that things have been very busy and it is all to bring you more amazing and inspired work!  

I was out at dinner with a good friend of mine who I went to school with at Parsons School of Design in NYC.  He lives in Paris and is visiting NY and I haven't seen him in a really long time.   We got all caught up and it was a very inspiring night.  Another thing that made it very special is that I spotted Julien d'ys, the master Hair Stlylist at dinner. He is to Hairstyling what Comme Des Garcons and Alaia are to Fashion.  I respect him not only for his talent, but for his culture, his passion and humility in what he does.

I am so inspired by his work and have featured him before on my blog that I decided to dedicate the art work that I drew and am posting today to him and all those that wake up in the moring with the love for what they do!

"I DON'T WANT TO BE COOL, I WANT TO BE FASHION" Illustration Homage to ANNA DELLO RUSSO

For those of you who read my blog, it is no secret that I am a huge admirer, fan, and proponent of one of the most influential editors in Fashion today, ANNA DELLO RUSSO.  Her work can be seen on her website, annadellorusso.com.  When she is not busy running a magazine, styling an editorial, modeling in a fashion show, or dressing in the latest runway looks (a different one each time she leaves the house) she is spending time with her dog Cucciolina.

Here is the beginning of what I am planning to be a larger body of work, I have done some illustrations of ADR wearing only a few of the many memorable and iconic outfits that have made it to fashion week, where she has been photographed by the magazines, paparazzi and fashion bloggers. Let me know what you guys think.

Ruben Toledo's Fashion Almanac Book

Today's post features an esteemed fashion illustrator. Her work speaks for itself.  She is currently working at the San Francisco Academy of Art  as the Executive Director of Fashion.  You may have seen work in top publications; The Sunday Times, The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, Russian L’Officiel and Vogue as well as contributing to Elle and Espresso Piu for Anna Piaggi, covering the European Fashion collections.

David Downton - Breathing Life into Fashion

Phrases that I would use to describe David Downton's work.....Amazing to look at...Uber modern with an old world elegance and taste.....I just want to hang it on my wall, where do I get one? Fashion Illustration in the hands of David Downton becomes alive.   His subjects are famous, ranging from Linda Evangelista, Cate Blanchett, Erin O'Connor, Catherine Deneuve, Paloma Picasso, Stella Tennat and Dita Von Teese to name a few.  He is about to release a book called "Masters of Fashion Illustration".  He was recently commissioned by Acne Paper to illustrate a special supplement on classic cocktails, sponsored by Absolut Vodka.  The list goes on and on. Take a look........ and BE INSPIRED.  Fashion Illustration is Alive!

David began his career in Illustration, not specifically Fashion Illustration.  But luckily for us, in 1996 he was commissioned by the Financial Times to draw at the couture shows and the rest is history.  I wish I was in London yesterday as David was at Fenwick's signing copies of his book for Fashion's Night Out.  You can pre-order Maters of Fashion Illustration on Amazon.com which is scheduled to be released here in the US on September 22.  We look forward to seeing a lot more of David's work in fashion.  One of these will one day be hanging in my studio.  David, we love you!!!!!  P.S.
